Here is a selection of presentations that have been made by and to club members, often during our regular Chapter Meetings.
- A Visit to My Studio, by Justin Maguire (ETE-ENE 1/19/21 meeting) Justin describes his studio as a place for drafting, sketching, model-building, and gives us a virtual guided tour of his studio and workshop, covering design considerations, organization, tools and equipment. Justin is a professional model maker and layout builder whose work is known for its realism, pleasing appearance and superb craftsmanship. While most of us will never have a workshop as complete as Justin’s, there is much to learn from this inspiring presentation.
- 2021 Märklin New Items, by Robert Frowenfeld (ETE-ENE 2/16/21 meeting) As he reviews Märklin’s new products, Robert shares his insights from a meeting with the Export Manager of Märklin (in Göppingen), who oversees the US operation, offering a wealth of knowledge on both the prototypes and the models themselves far beyond what’s covered in the “2021 New Items” brochure. Robert is the proprietor of RJF Trains, a leading Märklin dealer and service provider in the United States, with an extensive knowledge of Märklin and related products. He is regarded as an expert on digital decoders and upgrades, and has worked with Märklin on a number of projects, including the original Märklin Digital Users Book from 1987 and the 0340 Signal Book published in 2002.
- Swiss Alpenbahn, by Jeff and Chris Koellmer. Together, Jeff and Chris have created a home layout featuring typical Swiss scenery as well as numerous trains regularly traverse the country. Mountains, towns, hillsides, stations and various modes of transportation are included.
- Adding a Backdrop to your Layout, by Zeke Sampson. Zeke offers a mini-seminar on how to add an impressive Backdrop to your home layout.
- Fitting a Decoder, by Mike Haire. Mike shows how to install a decoder in passenger coaches to achieve realistic lighting control at station stops.
- Realistic Mortar Joints, by Mike Haire. Mike demonstrates how he creates accurate and believable mortar joints on his layout.
